The Opening Credits

Ever since he was a boy, Jack Sommer has been heavily influenced by the world of cinema. The initial part of this project started as a way to document all of those movies. Not just any and every movie, but the ones that really stood out and made an impact - which there are still a lot of within those parameters.

The other concept developed for this study was to showcase and analyze how photography is intertwined with cinema. After all, movies are just "moving pictures" at their base, right? Each post therefore includes a careful selection of the best frames, or at least personal favorites, from a particular film. A way to pay homage to the cinematography. Also included in each post is a plot summary, commentary, the Director's name, and of course the Cinematographer's name (aka the DOP - Director of Photography).

This will be a lifetime project. One that Jack hopes to continue to update consistently with double features each month. The plan is to release both posts on the first Friday of each month. Hopefully this gives you all enough time to watch these movies within that timeframe of the month. That's definitely a goal of this project as well, to have people keep up with the movies and get exposed to more and more cinema. If you've seen that month's films already, brilliant. You can still join in on appreciating them and the fine cinematography within. These movies may be ones from the past or they may be more recent. It doesn't matter, the choices are ones that make you feel something. Ones that stand the test of time to him. And that's what's important with movies: that they connect with you.
